I was interested in acquiring a smart security camera kit for some time but I didn't know exactly what to look for in brands.

While shopping around, a representative told me about the Arlo Pro 2 and explained the basics. So, I decided to go with this brand.

What's inside the kit

In the kit, there is a base station, two cameras, two rechargeable batteries, a wall charger, and two magnetic wall mounts. There are bundles that come with more cameras or they can be added individually.

The base station is like a modem; you connect it to your WiFi and began the process of setting up your cameras.

  • Easy Set-Up
After connecting to WiFi the base station may take a few minutes to update the firmware.

There is an app that you  download that will walk you through setting up your cameras with the base station. You can choose names for your base station and cameras.

One thing I want to stress, is when you press the sync button, make sure both cameras are blinking when the app is looking for your cameras.

  • What I liked
First, these cameras are weather-proof which is definitely a plus and the app allows you to conveniently take a look from anywhere you are so can you check on things at anytime.

There are several options available in the Arlo app like settings for night vision, video quality, geofencing and more.

I like that there is no subscription needed for weekly motion-based monitoring.
In the app you can use the microphone and the option to use the siren. Also, there is tech support and firmware updates.

  • What I didn't like
The cons that I have with these cameras is that the picture isn't very detailed but decent. The subscription gives you better quality.

If you are using the wireless option, charging the cameras every now and then can get a little tedious if they pick up motion from longer distances resulting in battery drain.

  • What did I think overall
If you are new to smart cameras, this is good for basic security and with a subscription it's great.
